School of Nursing, Medical College of Soochow University (originally known as Department of Nursing, Suzhou Medical College) was founded in 1997 and is one of the earliest nursing undergraduate programs in Jiangsu Province. The school has a long history in advancing the discipline of nursing and academic excellence. In 2008, the School became a Provincial Feature Specialty in Jiangsu; in 2011, it became a primary-discipline master’s degree and doctoral degree conferring unit, and a Key Specialty in clinical nursing of the Ministry of Health; in 2013, it became a professional master’s degree conferring unit in nursing; in 2015, it passed the accreditation for nursing majors in institutions of higher education by Ministry of Education, and became the Provincial Demonstration Center for Experiment Teaching; in 2017, it was approved as one of the first humanistic nursing demonstration bases in China; in 2019, it was approved as the Postdoctoral Research Centre for Nursing of Soochow University. At present, the School has a total of about 300 full-time undergraduate students, over 1,000 students of adult education, and 118 postgraduates in nursing.

A number of visiting professors or faculty of the School of Nursing at Soochow University hold the prestigious title of Fellow of American Academy of Nursing (FAAN). Many faculty have significant leadership positions in professional associations and have been recognized for their contributions to teaching. Importantly, a number of faculty are also active clinicians in the affiliated teaching hospitals, which ensures the effective transfer of nursing theory to practice.

The School of Nursing has played a leading role in globalizing nursing education in China. Students are engaged in a number of exchange programs with prestigious universities in Germany, the Netherlands, Taiwan, Hong Kong, the US, Australia, Japan, and now our Faculty here in Toronto in Canada. Additionally, the School provides enriching education experience for students from other countries including students from our faculty, which assists in the development of nursing scholars.
